Limitless
|
The mega yacht
Limitless was one of the worst-kept secrets while
under construction. One of the
many no-compromise features was a 25-knot speed;
Anything less would mean that the yard would end up
owning the boat.
Show
Boats International in 1998 awarded Limitless as the
Most Innovative Motor Yacht.

Sea Cloud
48"
long
|
The Sea Cloud’s life story is more thrilling than
some novels. She was built in 1931 in Kiel at the
request of a Wall Street broker. It was his wife,
Lady Marjorie Post, who shaped the Sea Cloud’s
character. She had exquisite taste: Only the best was good
enough for her. She loved golden bath fixtures, Carrara marble, precious woods, solid brass and
antique furniture. The on-board ambiance is a result
of her "weakness" for extravagance. Even today the Sea Cloud embodies that luxury and
love of life – in the two owner’s suites and eight
other original cabins as well in the stylish new
cabins. The four-masted barque is at home on the
world’s oceans as a cruise ship extraordinaire. Those who have sailed with her
return to her again and again.

SKAT
24"
long
|
SKAT’s most striking feature is
the angularity of her exterior surfaces. There are
no curves, save for the forward portion of her shear
line, which sweeps from the bow to about a quarter
of her length aft before melding into her topsides.
High atop the deckhouse, her bridge deck is a
semi-hexagonal fortress with large glass panels
standing proudly beneath a protective brow, slightly
resembling the bunkers that were long ago dug into
the cliffs of Normandy. That same semi-hexagonal
form is echoed in the aft end of the deckhouse, with
her saloon, seating, and entertainment spaces rimmed
by walls of glass.
SKAT presents an almost military bearing, even to
the point of having her Lürssen project number,
9906, painted on the hull in bold battleship-style
block lettering. She abounds with impressive and
innovative features.

Christina O
|
Christina O was
originally a Canadian naval frigate called the Stormont that was built in 1943. After the end of
the WWII Greek shipowner Aristotle
Onassis purchased her and spent $4
million to convert her into a luxurious yacht and
renamed her Christina after his daughter.
Celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra
and Eva Peron have sailed on her. She was one of the
most famous society venues of the mid 20th century:
John F Kennedy first met Winston Churchill on board
in 1957. In 1998, Christina O undertook a major refurbishment. 560 tons
of steel in the hull, fifty-six
miles of new wiring and 140 tons of pipe work were
replaced. This large task, along with the
refurbishment and redecoration of gathering spaces,
was stunningly accomplished in only 16 months, with
more than 1.2 million man-hours and at a cost of
more than $50 million. It was the most extensive
refit project ever in history.

resembles a military craft, Izanami almost dares
other vessels to take her on—the perfect complement

competitive sailor (he owns a racing sloop,

Asean Lady

Asean Lady represents a
paradigm shift in yacht design. She takes an ancient
vessel concept for a wooden outrigger canoe and
successfully applies it into a modern yacht of
impressive stability and efficiency. Her owner,
Brian Chang, worked out the equations for this
revolutionary yacht, which balances an amazing
20,000 square feet of truly functional space on two
narrow, asymmetrical hulls. Not only this 289-foot
steel yacht is stable enough to have survived the
December 2004 tsunami while anchored off Phuket,
Thailand, but also capable of 14 knots.

There are extensive watertoys, including Boston
Whaler 22-foot and 18-foot tenders, three
WaveRunners, kayaks, windsurfers and scuba gear with
compressor. Every prospective charter client should
consider five elements when hunting for the perfect
yacht: quality of the build, accommodations and
amenities, crew experience, chef’s expertise, and
destination. Should a handful of yachts meet a given
vacation criteria, the choice is often based on
details—the little touches that an owner has
incorporated for himself but happen to enhance the
charter experience. In the selective universe of
12-guest charter yachts, such details set Paraffin
apart. Rate: $340,000 per week.

Earthrace
|
The Earthrace is a
1080-Horsepower, 78 foot speedboat wavepiercing
trimaran that runs on biodiesel fuel. Designed to
perform at high-speeds in the world's toughest ocean
conditions, Earthrace submarines right through
waves. When a wave is encountered, the hull pierces
through the water rather than riding over the top.
The result is a dramatically smoother ride than
traditional deep-V designs, minimizing stress on the
vessel. Wave piercing allows the boat to cruise
continuously at 40 knots in both flat and rough sea
conditions.
Combine this with environmentally friendly fuel,
Earthrace is one of the most awe-inspiring vessels
the world ever sees. She will soon attempt to break
the world record for circumnavigating the globe
using nothing but biodiesel renewable fuel. Sign

Marco Polo
|
Benetti yachts is teaming up with Fincantieri
Yachts to embark on a radical new yacht design. A
dramatic departure in design, the Marco Polo is a
contrasting mix of modern and retro elements. Among
the more distinguishing features are the enclosed
aft atrium and the 1930’s, bull-nose bow. At the
same time, the round windows along the
superstructure are reminiscent of an ancient cruise
liner.
According to the plan, the top deck is broken into
three distinct areas: an arch with a heli-platform,
an enclosed gym with 360 degree views, and an
external whirlpool /sundeck area. Tender stowage is
located midship on the lower deck with launch
garages to port and starboard. The garages will
accommodate 2 RIBS, 5 PWC’s and at least one 30-plus
foot runabout that will be retro in design. The
lower deck will feature the “Beach Club”, a bar and
lounge area with swim platforms on each side of the
hull. Marco Polo
