USS NORTH CAROLINA
BB-55 battleship model

USS North Carolina BB-55 is the lead ship of her battleship class.  She was the very first newly-constructed American battleship to enter service during World War II.  BB-55 took part in every major naval offensive in the Pacific war to become the most highly decorated American battleship of World War II, accumulating 15 battle stars.   USS North Carolina is now a museum ship and memorial kept at the seaport of Wilmington, N.C.

This USS North Carolina battleship model features:

- Plank-on-frame, hollow hull construction (very important), weighing less than 15 lbs  (A solid hull of this model would weigh over 50 lbs, requiring 2 people to handle and a fortified table to accommodate.)

- Hollow superstructure comprised of many individual thin pieces of wood glued together, not few blocks stacking on top one another.

- Windows are cutouts (not black decals), thanks to the hollow structures.

- Light rust appearance to give the ship the battle look.

- >95% of parts are wood and metal
.
