Built in 1848, L’Orenoque was the first French
frigate with mixed propulsion sail-steam. Although
equipped with mechanical propulsion advanced in
conception, it kept the typical masting of the
frigates in that time. Scarcely armed, L’Orenoque
was used in particular to transport troops.
She displaced 2,568 tons.
