ISLAND CLASS COAST GUARD MODEL
The 110-ft Island-class patrol boats are
a US Coast Guard modification of a highly successful
British-designed Vosper Thornycroft patrol boat. With
excellent range and seakeeping capabilities, the Island
class, all named after US islands, are equipped with
advanced electronics and navigation equipment and are
used in support of the Coast Guard's maritime homeland
security, migrant interdiction, drug interdiction,
defense operations, fisheries enforcement, and search
and rescue missions.
The Coast Guard employs
Island Class WPB cutters, which are highly maneuverable
and, with a shorter draft, can patrol in the shallow
waters found in the Arabian Gulf. These ships also
maintain their ability to stay long periods at sea since
they can be replenished while underway. There are
similarities in the capabilities of the WPBs and the
Navy’s Coastal Patrol ships, however, the crew and legal
jurisdiction really separate the two and creates the
need for the Coast Guard in Bahrain.
As a member of Department
of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard is able to enforce
United States laws and treaties. However, when operating as a member
of the armed forces, the Coast Guard can fall under the
Department of Navy and obtain the same authority and
jurisdiction that U.S. Navy.
49 cutters of the Island class were
built, of which 37 remain in commission. The 58
ordered Sentinel-class cutters are slated to replace the
Island class. Six Island class cutters are currently
stationed in Manama, Bahrain as a part of Patrol Forces
Southwest Asia to provide the Navy's Fifth Fleet with
combat ready assets. The cutters have 10 tons worth of
space and weight reservations for additional weapons.
This primarily wood model

Our
Island-class model is
guaranteed to beat other maker's models by a wide margin.
Our research powerhouse and our
attention to details are unprecedented.
If you look carefully
at the the shape of the hull, anchor system, propellers, RHIB, railings
and you will easily see a vast difference...
It's
the accuracy that counts. Beautiful yet
intricate details take much more time to make and
require higher skill. When you are comparing models,
use a large-screen
device to view the model, as a phone is too small
and all models appear the same or different
marginally. Look for photos of all angles, photos
that clearly show the guns, the propellers, the
boats, the radars...
