SAN ANTONIO class LPD models
The
San Antonio Class landing platform dock is the
latest class of amphibious force ship of the US
Navy. To date, there are a total of 11 San
Antonio Class LPD flight I ships commissioned.
These ships'
mission is to transport the US Marine Corps
‘mobility triad’, comprising advanced amphibious assault
vehicles (AAAVs), landing craft air-cushion (LCAC) and
the MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, around the world.
San Antonio ships are the most survivable amphibious ships ever put
to sea. Their design incorporates
state-of-the-art self-defense capabilities; and
includes facilities for command and control,
communications, computers, and intelligence.
Total Ship's
Training System, Integrated Bridge System,
Engineering Control System, and Damage Control
System all serve to ensure that sailors and Marines
will be able to fully perform their expeditionary
warfare missions. The ship also incorporate the
latest quality of life standards for the embarked
Marines and sailors, including the sit-up berth,
ship services mall, and Learning Resource
Center/Electronic Classroom with the flexibility to
accommodate sailors and Marines of both sexes as
part of the crew and embarked troops.
The San Antonio class was
largely designed with the metric system, specifying
millimeters and meters for linear dimensions. This
is the first major U.S. Navy ship class to be built
this way.
In 2018, Huntington
Ingalls Industries received a $165.5m contract to
acquire long-lead-time material and perform advance
construction activities of LPD-30 ship. It will
be the first Flight II LPD of the class.
Flight II is being built to meet the operational
requirements of the US Navy and Marine Corps. The
vessels will incorporate minor modifications to
feature a ship-to-shore connector, CH-53K helicopter
and improved troop armament stowage.
The US Navy plans to procure 13 LPD-17 Flight II
ships, which will replace the ageing LSD 41/49 class
vessels.

We have built a large
San-Antonio-class USS
San Diego for the
former Navy Secretary
Donald C. Winter. The USS San Diego
was the fourth model Mr. Donald C. Winter
received from ModelShipMaster. The first two
models served as presents to LPD-22 in her commissioning ceremony in May 2012. The
third model was the USS San Diego CA-6, completed in 2013 for
a permanent display on the real LPD-22 ship. There
were good reasons for a Navy Secretary to choose us.
