LNG CARRIER MODEL

LNG ENDEAVOUR

LNG tanker

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is the transition fuel of choice for marine stakeholders as the world moves towards net-zero emissions. Global demand for LNG has led to huge investments in production, infrastructure and the international development of distribution networks, fueling increased demand for LNG shipping.

The first LNG tanker ever put to sea was the Methane Pioneer in 1959In the early 1970s, the US government encouraged US shipyards to build LNG carriers, and a total of 16 LNG ships were built. The late 1970s and early 1980s brought the prospect of Arctic LNG ships with a number of projects being studied. LNG carriers face a range of technical, structural and safety challenges, as vessels require sophisticated technology to transport and maintain their liquefied cargo. This in turn makes LNG shipping a capital-intensive business. A modern vessel could cost $200 million.

Since 2005, Qatargas has pioneered the development of two new classes of LNG tankers, referred to as Q-Flex and Q-Max. Each ship has a cargo capacity of between7,400,000 and 9,400,000 cu ft and is equipped with a re-liquefaction plant.

At the end of 2016, the global LNG shipping fleet consisted of 439 vessels. At the end of 2018, it was approximately 550 ships.

In 2021—2022, an LNG shipment from USA to Europe could return a profit of $133—200 million. Shipping rates were average $100,000 per day even for 5-year contracts.

LNG model

This primarily wood model of the LNG Endeavour tanker is 40" x 12" x 7". LNG Endeavour is 293m long and has a capacity of 174,000 m3 in Mark 3 Flex membrane tanks. The model is commissioned by trade association of the US LNG export industry.
