The
Maersk Alabama was hijacked 240 nautical miles (280
mi) of Somalia and rescued by the U.S. Navy on 12
April 2009. It was the first successful pirate
seizure of a ship registered under the American flag
since the early 19th century.
The incident was reported in the
book A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs,
and Dangerous Days at Sea
(2010) by Stephan Talty and Captain Richard
Phillips. The hijacking also inspired the 2013
film Captain Phillips, with Tom Hanks playing the
role.
This 38"
long (N
scale) Maersk Alabama
model container ship is a remote control model.
We
can also build this model static for you.
Note that we can make this model waterline.
Different
sizes are no problems.
The following video
shows a RC crane was made to work with the Maersk
Alabama.
Don't be fooled by
junk
containership models circulating out there.
They are mass
produced by sweatshops. The middlemen import them by
container loads and when they realize that they
can't sell them easily, they unload them with
extremely low prices to save storage fee and to
salvage their transportation cost. The grave errors
in the photo below (Maersk
Alabama)
took us less than 5 minutes to spot.
