Q-FLEX LNG TANKER
Q-Flex
ships are a class of a membrane type liquefied natural
gas (LNG) carriers. They are 315 meters long and 50 meters
wide. These ships have a goose neck
type of stem to minimize wave resistance.
Q-Flex
ships have a cargo capacity about 40% more than
conventional LNG carriers. They have two slow-speed
diesel engines that are more efficient and
environmentally friendly than traditional steam
turbines. They also have an on-board re-liquefaction
system that handles the boil-off gas, liquefy it and
return the LNG to the cargo tanks.
Qatar
developed the Q-Flex ships as part of an LNG carrier
newbuilding program. The first Q-Flex ships were
delivered between 2007 and 2008. The first laden Q-Flex
ship to pass through the Panama Canal was the Al Safliya
in 2019.
Until the
entry into service of the Q-Max carrier,
Q-Flex was the world's largest LNG carrier.
