ALEXANDER HAMILTON STEAMSHIP

Alexander Hamilton was a steamer built for the Hudson River Day Line in 1924 and named after Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. She was a beautiful vessel known to many on the Hudson River as the "White Swan". She literally 'glided' along the river and her sleek appearance was indeed graceful, swan-like.

The Alexander Hamilton steamboat was the last of the great Day Line sidewheels, and the last of her kind to ply the Hudson River. Originally plying the Hudson River between New York City and Albany, by the 1950s steamboat Alexander Hamilton's route was reduced to Poughkeepsie, and by 1970 to Bear Mountain.

Alexander Hamilton ceasing her career in 1971 with her final run to Bear Mountain in the Lower Hudson Valley. It was the end of an era that began 164 years ago with a paddlewheeler called the Clermont. Her 48 years of service served well over 5 million passengers between Albany and New York City.

Alexander Hamiltonwas added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 25, 1977.
