HMS AGAMEMNON model
HMS Agamemnon was a Royal Navy third-rate ship of the
line with an armament of 64 guns. She was built at
Bucklers Hard on the Beaulieu River in the New Forest,
was launched on 10 April 1781, and served until 1809
when she was lost after running aground on a shoal in
the mouth of the River Plate.
In
1793, HMS Agamemnon came under command of Captain
Horatio Nelson. Nelson sailed Agamemnon in
the blockade of Toulon and in the capture of the
Corsican ports of Bastia and Calvi. It was in this
campaign, onboard the HMS Agamemnon,
that Nelson lost his right eye.
For
three of the most crucial decades of British naval
history, the HMS Agamemnon was at the center of events, fighting
at the Battle of the Saintes, the Battle of Copenhagen
and Trafalgar. In the Battle of Trafalgar, she forced the surrender of
the Spanish four-decker
Santísima Trinidad. Later,
the HMS Agamemnon
served in the West Indies,
participating in the Battle of Santo Domingo, and
then in South American waters, until she was wrecked off the
coast of present-day Uruguay in 1809.
The
HMS Agamemnon
is remembered as
Horatio Nelson's favorite ship.
He was very fond of the Agamemnon and described her
as “without exception the finest 64 in the service.”
He was the Captain of the HMS Agamemnon for 3 years
and 3 months.

The HMS Agamemnon model is truly beautiful.
Gave it to Dad for Father's Day. He's enamored by it. Your ships are
the best and arrive in perfect condition. I would love to get HMS
Victory from you, but understand from previous correspondence that
it is not always available. Would you let me know when you have one
to sell? I have a spot already picked out. (And P.S. the
illumination feature is really cool.) Best regards, David F.
