USS SEQUOIA

Sequoia served U.S. Presidents from Hoover to Bush as the presidential yacht.

President Franklin Roosevelt planned wartime strategy onboard with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.  He planned his post-D-Day address to the nation while circling in the Potomac off Mt.  Vernon.

President Truman came to the final decision to drop the atomic bomb to end World War II while onboard Sequoia.

President Eisenhower used the yacht occasionally.  President Kennedy used Sequoia frequently to escape the public eye.  President Lyndon Johnson lowered the floor in the presidential shower three inches to accommodate his height.

On the Sequoia, President Nixon negotiated the nuclear arms reduction treaty with the Soviet.  It was also onboard the Sequoia that he told his family his intention to resign the presidency.

President Ford held cabinet meetings onboard Sequoia while she was tied up at the Washington Navy Yard.

Other heads of state who have enjoyed Sequoia cruises include Queen Elizabeth II, The Emperor and Empress of Japan, the Prime Minister of Canada, and the Premier of China.

Sold by the U.S. Government in 1977, the Sequoia continues to be available for charter for official use.  Recent guests onboard included President Clinton and former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev.

Like all of our yacht models, this USS Sequoia has the following qualities:

- Plank-on-frame (very important), hollow hull construction, weighing less than 10 lbs (A solid hull of this model would be over 30 lbs which feel like a toy.

- The hollow superstructure is comprised of many individual thin pieces of wood glued together, not several solid pieces of wood stacking on top one another.

- Windows are cutouts (not black decals), thanks to the hollow structures

- >95% of parts are wood and metal.

36" long x 6" wide x 15" tall (including base)    $2,700      S & H is $90    SOLD
