DIAMOND PRINCESS model

About the construction of Diamond Princess cruise scale model:

- Built from scratch  from official plans, over hundreds of hours by master artisans

-
Plank-on-frame construction. This construction method gives accurate hulls, as artisans create the frame of the hull exactly like in drawings. The solid hull method, on the other hand, employs most guesswork on the degree of curvature.

- The hollow superstructure is comprised of
hundred of individual thin pieces of wood glued together, not several solid pieces stacking on top one another.

- Windows are cutouts (not black decals), thanks to the hollow structures.

Note that the model in the photos were completed at the time the real ship did not have the artwork on its bow as when the COVID-19 pandamic happened. We can add the current artwork per your request.

About the Diamond Princess:

Diamond Princess is a cruise ship owned and operated by Princess Cruises. She began operation in March 2004 and primarily cruises in Alaska during the summer and Asia in the winter. She is a subclassed Grand Class ship, which is also known as a Gem Class ship. Diamond Princess and her sister ship, Sapphire Princess, are the largest subclass of Grand-class ships.

Prior to 2014, Diamond Princess alternated sailing north and southbound voyages of the glacier cruises. In the southern summer, she sails from Australia and New Zealand, and cruises around Asia. Since 2014, she sails Japan cruises from Yokohama for Tokyo or Kobe in the northern summer season.

For the 2016-17 season, she sailed roundtrip sailings in the northern winter months from Singapore replacing the Sapphire Princess. Kota Kinabalu was added as part of its destination along with Vietnamese port of Nha Trang in December 2016. Her Australia & New Zealand voyages from Sydney will be replaced by the Emerald Princess, but will resume these voyages for the 2017-18 season.

After the 2018 Australia & New Zealand cruises, Diamond Princess has been repositioned into South-East Asia for most of 2018, varying between Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Vietnam, Taiwan and Malaysia. It is projected to remain in South-East Asia (predominantly in Japanese waters) to early 2021.

On 20 January 2020 an 80-year-old guest from Hong Kong embarked in Yokohama, sailed one segment of the itinerary, and disembarked in Hong Kong on 25 January. He visited a local Hong Kong hospital, six days after leaving the ship, where he later tested positive for coronavirus on 1 February. On the next voyage, on 4 February 2020, the ship was in Japanese waters when 10 passengers were diagnosed with 2019 novel coronavirus during the 2019–20 Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. A total of 3,700 passengers and crew were quarantined by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare for what was expected to be a 14-day period, off the Port of Yokohama. On 7 February, the total number of people on board with confirmed coronavirus infections grew to 61. Another three cases were detected on 8 February, bringing the total to 64. Six cases were detected on 9 February, while another 66 were detected on 10 February, bringing the total to 136. On February 11, 39 more people tested positive for COVID-19, including the case of one quarantine officer, bringing the total to 174.

"I truly am overwhelmed by the level of work put into your ships! She is amazing and is above and beyond my expectations. When I saw her for the first time still in the crate, I was blown away by what detail I could see. I really think I will place another order with you in the future. I really would love a sun class cruise ship! Thank you so much.   Tyrone"
