MAERSK ALABAMA
N scale remote control container ship model

The Maersk Alabama was hijacked 240 nautical miles (280 mi) of Somalia and rescued by the U.S. Navy on 12 April 2009.  It was the first successful pirate seizure of a ship registered under the American flag since the early 19th century.

The incident was reported in the book A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea (2010) by Stephan Talty and Captain Richard Phillips.  The hijacking also inspired the 2013 film Captain Phillips, with Tom Hanks playing the role.
