HMS SURPRISE model

In the
middle of the Napoleonic era (1805), the French had
captured most of Europe and intended to seize
England, the final piece of the puzzle. In an effort
to protect England from an invading force, the
British Navy was ordered to intercept and destroy
French vessels before they near the shoreline. Among
them, HMS Surprise, received the specific
instructions: "Intercept French Privateer,
Acheron…you will sink, burn, or take her as prize."
Led by Jack Aubrey, the British ship found its
way down to the Brazilian coastline. Ironically,
however, it was the Acheron that took the Brits
by surprise. Outmaneuvered and outgunned,
HMS Surprise suffered significant damage, including
the destruction of her rudder and the loss of
many men. Managed to escape, the courageous
Captain fixed up his battered ship and hunted
down the superior Acheron for a showdown.
The final battle came when Aubrey gambled on
superior seamanship and captured the Acheron.
This achievement of HMS Surprise was unmatched
throughout the world’s naval history.

Our HMS Surprise
model is based from the ship in the novel by Patrick
O'Brian. It is not the HMS Rose which
was converted to the HMS Surprise for the movie
Master and Commander. One difference is that the ship's wheel is behind the
mizzen mast, not in front of the middle mast. It also did not have fancy decoration on the stern.

About the construction of the
HMS
Surprise
wooden scale model:
- Built from scratch over
hundreds of hours by master artisans
- Reference: Plans of HMS Surprise, originally built as French
corvette L'Unite
- High quality woods include cherry, birch, maple and
rosewood
-
Plank-on-frame
construction for ultimate
durability
- True copper-plated bottom:
individual copper pieces that were weathered unevenly to
create a realistic look (no fake lines.)
-
Under the main deck, all guns are "real" guns which
have proper barrels and wooden carriages which sit on 2
real decks under the main deck. These
guns are not simple barrels inserted into a solid hull
like in a cheap model.
- Authentic Extensive rigging system comprised of many
different sizes of rope and features numerous blocks and
deadeyes
- Correct boats which also
have masts and oars

ModelShipMaster.com
produces the finest
and most accurate tall ship model in the world. We do not attach a name
to a ship's stern and say it is that ship. We
never cut the bowsprit and masts short in order to save shipping
cost. We refuse to paint copper color onto a wooden hull
to make a false appearance of a copper plated bottom.
Our guns under the main deck are 'real' and our boats
are real wood, not plastic casting. Ask stephensandkenau.com to confirm those features and
you'll be surprised they won't.
Don't be fooled by some
model makers out there who freely claim their models
"museum grade" or even "true museum quality. Their ships
are wrong on many counts. The hull is horrible. Some
parts are oversized yet others undersized. Plenty are
wrong; many are missing. Click

to look for in tall ship
